A Woman Swings an Axe

The chores— I can help

even as a weakling lookalike.

I place a log on a block of stump

swing an axe, split it

into firewood

keep up with the menfolk too.

Someone put my bleeding heart

on the block of olive wood

chopped it up

passed it around

like a blunt

to share.

always some to spare

for the gawkers who stare,

quite a piece of heart,

a beat of love.

A slice from the pizza truck

oozing in red sauce and cheese.
