At the Dew of Dawn

On morning’s

breath

birds chirp

lovely songs

while

tender bamboo

shoots

pierce the earth

pushing

through the soil

feeding on winter’s

decay

that blankets

the ground—

fledglings

in vibrant

and luminous

hues

like fresh

spring

leaves

unfurling

believe they’ll

grow tall

become a feast

devoured

by a ravenous

bear,

a panda.
